Mexico City! Xochimilco is a must-visit destination located in the southern part of Mexico City, known for its enchanting canals and vibrant trajineras (gondolas).
The best way to explore Xochimilco is by taking a ride on a trajinera. These colorful boats are a popular attraction and can fit up to 20 people. As you glide along the canals, you’ll be surrounded by lush vegetation, and you’ll get a glimpse into the local culture and traditions.
Prior to boarding the gondolas, we made a quick stop at a store to purchase some snacks for the ride. It wasn’t much, but it added to the festive atmosphere. However, during the ride, we noticed vendors offering flower halos, food, and drinks, so it wasn’t necessary to stop beforehand.
As we glided down the river, we spotted mariachi bands performing on other boats. Although it is possible to hire a Mariachi band, it didn’t seem worthwhile since there were only two of us.
Overall, we would have enjoyed the experience more if there were more people with us, but we still made the most of our time.
Xochimilco is a perfect place to escape the city’s chaos and relax in a peaceful environment. It’s a unique experience that you don’t want to miss while visiting Mexico City.
